Fucked up ribs and movies...

So here's the scoop. I've had a pretty shitty cold/flu/swine-ish thing now for the last 19 days or so, since getting back from America. Friends have pissed around telling me I have swine flu but I figure it's just a bad cold. I'm a man after all and in my book, there is NO SUCH THING as Man-Flu. Well, at least not for this Englishman.

I have had this nasty cough now for about 7 days and it has, unfortunately, taken it's toll, on my ribs no less. You see, a few years ago I was hurtling down a local mountain biking trail with my friend Andre when we had somewhat of a misadventure. Some of you would call it a really nasty crash but for me it was actually quite fun, painful but fun.

We were rocketing down a trail, probably going about 15-20mph, lined with trees, when Andre decides he is going to be a fancy pants and start pulling off neat little tricks on the small double jumps. He was doing quite well until he landed wrong, veered off the trail, hit a tree head on, his bike swung out into the trail directly in front of me, I hit it, went over the handle bars, broke 2 ribs, fractured 3 and broke my shoulder.....Oh, and hit the ground SO hard on my head that my helmet split.....this is leading somewhere, honest!

Ever since that slight mishap I have the occasional trouble with the ribs on my left side, especially if I catch myself a cough of some sort. The constant coughing and strain puts pressure on the damaged bone and can, at times cause some discomfort as the muscle contracts around it. It can get pretty painful but it is, generally, bare-able.

Needless to say, I have been in some discomfort for the last 2 days, well, that was at least until today when the discomfort actually became PAIN. While coughing rather hard there was this rather painful............TWANG! and pop, the ribs goes...Y'OUCH!

So guess who is going to the doctors tomorrow to get some lovely pain killers? ME!! damn it! Not sure that my boss will be too pleased but he seemed alright when I left work early this afternoon.

OK, now that sob story is over you can give me a bunch of sympathy...

Now on to the movies part.

With not much to do today other than just try to lay still, I decided that I was going to watch the Hugh Jackman movie Australia well all I can say is.....GO WATCH IT!! It's brilliant, brilliant I say.

Now I know it's supposed to be mainly aimed toward you women out there that have romantic hearts and crave adventure, well, us guys have that too and it was just great. It's just full of everything a good movie should have, love, adventure, danger, suspense, drama....and bad guys!

Past life...

I got this from D's Tumblr page. It is supposed to tell you who you were in a past life. It give's nothing too specific just vague comments that I guess anyone could associate with their lives.

Although....the last section titled "The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation" is actually quite close...

Your past life diagnosis:
I don't know how you feel about it, but you were female in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern Yugoslavia around the year 1800. Your profession was that of a dramatist, director, musician or bard.
Your brief psychological profile in your past life:
You were a sane, practical person, a materialist with no spiritual consciousness. Your simple wisdom helped the weaker and the poor.
The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:
Your lesson is to conquer jealousy and anger in yourself and then in those who will select you as their guide. You should understand that these weaknesses are caused by fear and self-regret.
Go check it out and see who you were!

Happy birthday to my best friend...

This post was supposed to come via my mobile phone as I had, or so I thought, set up mobile blogging on my account.

I tried to upload this yesterday but I kept getting an error.....Grr! D' gave the suggestion that it could have been because I was attaching a photograph and perhaps they will only allow text?!

This picture was taken in the Cannon Street Brewery, a great little pub tucked away in the streets of Bury St Edmunds.

This could quite possibily be the last photograph you will see of Marc and I together for a good few years as he leaves the country in 4 weeks to go to Australia and his new life with his family.

Happy Birthday Marc!!

The bottom line...

“Bottom line is that couples that are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else. But the big difference is they don’t let it take them down…one of those two people will stand up and fight for the relationship every time; if it’s right, and they’re real lucky, one of them will say something.”

A hard day...

Yesterday, Monday, was a hard day for me, emotionally. I really needed to blog about it but after talking to D' I decided that just talking about it was by far the better option.

My Facebook status yesterday read " need's to blog but does not know where to start " so in response to this my American girl wrote on my wall...

regarding the blog - start here...

My fiancee is so beautiful and so loving and I am being a big 'ol dork because she is going to love me forever and ever no matter what. And whenever I need to say crazy things, I know she will listen. And whenever I need some lovin', I know she will be there to give it to me. And when I just need to take a deep breath because this world has sunk into my head and ran around like a monkey on crack, she will be there to gently remind me that it will all be ok, and that we won't be apart forever. And that she said YES, and that's all that matters, or something to that affect. I love you baby. Have a great day at work. And don't die please. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

FYI...the reference to me dying is because I am suffering from a pretty nasty cold which I have had for over a week now and has just developed a really shitty cough.

You see, I told you all she is wonderful...

1 week later...

It's been exactly one week since I last kissed, hugged, laughed, tickled, held, slept, joked, giggled and loved my fiancee face to face.

Has it been a difficult week? Well actually......YES!

Not only have I had to endure the pain and anguish of not being with her I have also had to deal with a horrible cold, which, D', for the longest time was convinced it was Swine Flu, and probably still is. The fact that I am not in a hospital right now probably has me on the " it's just a cold " list.

In all this last week has been pretty tiring, work has been a strain, mainly because I have not been well, but the days have been very long and the nights, alone, much longer. It really does take a long time getting used to not being in the same space as her.

So, as a typical guy, I cheered myself up by buying a new video game for the PS3....and some beer.

I have, however, got a nice weekend to look forward to. Today, Saturday, I took my daughter shopping and she bought a birthday gift for her friend and a new water bottle for school from Fat Face, I purchased a Polo Shirt from the same store. We ate Indian take out food, which was really good but my stomach is now really pissed with me. Tomorrow my best friend Marc is coming over for a BBQ and a few beers which will be great (photo's will follow i'm sure). He goes to Australia in July to live so every bit of time with him is precious. Although, he has made the foolish mistake of asking me to train him at the gym so I am not sure how precious he will consider our last few months together....love ya bro!

To end........here's a photo.
